Intergen UK faced significant community concerns regarding the development of gas storage caverns in a quiet seaside village, with residents fearing potential hazards to their safety and environment. To address these concerns, they enlisted us to implement a grassroots public affairs campaign aimed at engaging the community, educating them about the technology, and reassuring them of its safety.
Our campaign involved extensive face-to-face discussions with key stakeholders, including parish councillors, MPs, and local landowners, conducted over several months. We organised public events, distributed informational literature, and managed media inquiries to counter misinformation, ultimately fostering open communication. Through our efforts, we successfully reassured the community that the project posed no danger and highlighted its importance for local employment and national energy needs. Although not everyone was convinced, we achieved our objective, helping Intergen UK secure the necessary permissions and integrating the Aldbrough gas storage caverns into the community as a source of local pride and economic benefit.
